With some creative thinking, you will be surprised at the options you have available that have never occurred to you before. When we're in the midst of stressing over our debt and we can't see the end in sight we can't see some of the obvious answers. Following are some tips that you may not have given thought to and will help you pay down debt.

Create Extra Income Monthly

If you've already cut every living expense you can think of (groceries, eating out, entertainment) the next step is to free up as much of your monthly income that you can by rearranging your life.

1. Vehicle expenses - Do you have a car payment or multiple car payments? These are going to have to go. Can you survive without your vehicle? Is public transportation an option? If so, as difficult and inconvenient as this may be for a while, sell your car. Even if you must sell your vehicle at a loss, if you can get enough for it to cover your outstanding loan on the car, get rid of it. If this isn't possible and you have more than one vehicle, get rid of all of them except one.

If you can't survive without you own transportation for a while then get rid of the payment however you can manage. Find a replacement vehicle that you can pay cash for. You can find a reliable vehicle that will get you back and forth to work that isn't costing you monthly. Looks don't matter at this point. You're in debt, you're going to lose your sanity and your home. Find a way to minimize the vehicle expenses.

An added benefit of not having to make a monthly vehicle payment is that you will not be required to carry full coverage auto insurance either. Between eliminating the vehicle payment and reducing/eliminating the insurance expense you will be saving upwards of $300.00 per month. Apply this amount to your debt religiously each month.

Hard Answers To Pay Down Debt

2. Monthly Utilities - Minimize your monthly utilities and other monthly bills. Do you have a land line phone service and cell phone service? If so, eliminate one of them. Cell phones cost more than land lines anymore. As hard as it is to imagine living temporarily without a cell phone, you'll be surprised how easily you can learn to live without it. Get rid of the land line or the cell phone, both if you can manage living without phone service for awhile.

Cable or satellite television services are something you can easily eliminate. If you haven't already gotten rid of this, do it now. If you can't fathom living without some kind of television then buy a $25.00 converter box to connect to your tv and you will have reception for UHF/VHF local stations with no monthly charges.

Internet Service Provider - yes, you can live without online services.

Reduce your monthly expenses for services down to the bare minimum. Electric, gas, water.

Every cent you save from eliminating the above has GOT to go towards reducing your debt each month. For many of us, this could add up to $200.00 easily.

A Serious Option To Pay Off Your Debt

This last one is probably going to be the most difficult. Once established, you will find that you can easily adapt to this idea. The trend of sharing living quarters and reducing your monthly housing expense has become a common occurrence in the last few years. Many people find themselves sharing rental expenses or mortgage expenses with a roommate or two.

3. Rent out a room of your home - If you own your home, regroup your current bedroom arrangements so that you have an extra bedroom to rent to someone else. There are many ways to handle this so that you are comfortable living with a stranger. Find a friend that is having a hard time making ends meet, a co-worker that needs to share rent, even a family member that can share your mortgage expenses.

This change in your living arrangements will bring in $300 or more to your monthly income. In many areas of the country you will be able to earn $500+ per month by sharing your living quarters. Be sure to learn about local regulations regarding this practice and make sure you have a rental agreement with your roommate that spells out all of the requirements regarding the arrangement.

Dealing With Debt Will Change Your Future

By implementing the above measures, when you can, and following a very strict budget with all of your other spending measures you should have quite a bit of extra money to apply to your current debt. Don't fall into the mistake of spending the extra funds that your are freeing up on unnecessary items. The money you are making all of the adjustments for is to apply to your current debt load. Pay it down quickly and efficiently.

Once we reach a point that we are making these types of life-changing decisions to climb our way out of debt we begin to get a new perspective on life in general. Going without for a while begins to teach us that it's not as difficult as we thought it would be. Most of us have gotten so used to the luxuries that aren't necessary to be happy that we've lost touch with the fact that these things are LUXURIES. We've begun to believe that all of the things and services that we are used to on a daily basis are things that we need to survive. It's not true.

You will notice, after living a different lifestyle with less distractions, that life is better. You're getting out and enjoying things more simply through participation in living. Walk in the park, enjoy the outdoors, spend time with people that you care about, and meet new people. None of these types of activities cost money. Involving yourself in these types of things will bring a new meaning to your life. Once you've eliminated your debt you may realize that you don't want all of those old luxuries back.
